Glasgow Rangers could appoint Ante Postecoglou, and he should bring Tim Cahill with him to Ibrox.
Odds have been cut on Ante Postecoglou being appointed as Glasgow Rangers boss after he quit as manager of Australia this week.
ESPN report Postecoglou is keen on the Rangers job, which has been vacant since Pedro Caixinha was fired last month.
If Postecoglou did land the role, it would make some sense for him to attempt to bring key Australia midfielder Tim Cahill with him.
Cahill is 37-years-old, so it would be the ultimate short-term move, but it would also be a move which could have a dramatic early impact.
Cahill is familiar with British football after spending the majority of his career with Everton, and at Millwall before that.
At both clubs he was a cult hero and could become a Gers fan favourite with his fight and goalscoring ability, which he showcased at the 2014 World Cup.
Even at 37, Cahill has plenty to offer. He played a key role in Postecoglou’s Australia earning World Cup qualification, and is in excellent physical condition. Next summer’s World Cup gives him plenty of motivation to stay in shape.
Goals win games, and Cahill’s knack of scoring from midfield can help fire Rangers up the Scottish Premiership table.
Last season he scored 13 times in 26 games for Melbourne Victory, demonstrating he has not lost that ability.
His experience and game changing ability could even make him the ideal type of player to take the game to Celtic in Old Firm matches, which have been one-sided so far.
Cahill moving to Ibrox may not be a solution which lasts long, but it could give the club a jolt in the arm which they desperately need right now.
Postecoglou could have the persuasive powers to make it happen if he lands the vacant role.
