Ian Wright has described Jarrod Bowen’s goal during West Ham United’s 3-1 win at Brighton as ‘world-class’.
After beating Chelsea last week, David Moyes’ side have backed it up by securing a deserved win over Brighton and proving that 78% possession for the home side was meaningless.
It was a masterclass by West Ham and Wright loved the ‘underrated’ nature of Jarrod Bowen’s goal after a superb ball from Said Benrahma saw the Englishman take two outstanding touches under pressure with his left foot, including to finish, as he told Premier League Productions (26/08/23 at 7:45 pm).
The 26-year-old will forever be a Hammers legend for scoring THAT goal in Prague and it will go down as perhaps his greatest-ever, for that reason.
But his strike yesterday, in terms of quality, was one of his best because as the ball was played across, he had little room to play with, on a tight angle, two Brighton defenders closing him down, including the goalkeeper.
Yet, his two faint touches allowed him to score a Goal of the Season contender and Wright was sure to big it up.

“You are looking at Michail Antonio and how deep he has come back to help, that’s what it’s about when you are away from home,” said Wright. “But that’s a great pass (from Benrahma).
“When you look at the distance that Jarrod Bowen covers, to get here, he is tired now. But those two touches are world-class touches – bang, bang. Those are world-class touches.
“The ball is coming, what 25 yards, on the spin, and he has taken it with the outside of his left foot. The two touches, bang, bang, that’s unbelievable. Underrated. I hope people realise how great this is and how much skill has gone into that. He kills them all.
“It’s a difficult one because you have a goalkeeper there and two defenders.”

Bowen back to his best
Last season, the versatile forward only scored six Premier League goals, a tally he would have been pretty much disappointed with because he is capable of hitting double figures.
But, inside three games this season, Bowen already has two and he will be hoping that he has found the magic touch in front of goal again.
If he does, then there is every chance that the Hammers secure a European finish via a top-seven finish rather than winning the Europa Conference League, which isn’t a bad way to do it, anyhow.
