Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been full of praise for Caoimhin Kelleher after his performance against Chelsea.

The Irish goalkeeper stepped in for Alisson against the Blues, and while he conceded two goals, he was excellent on the day.

Indeed, the two goals he conceded simply weren’t his fault. Mateo Kovacic’s volley was simply unstoppable, while Christian Pulisic’s equaliser, although not as spectacular, was an equally well-struck effort.

Kelleher did make a couple of brilliant saves during the match, and Alexander-Arnold was very impressed by his teammate.

What’s Alexander-Arnold said about Kelleher?

The right-back was blown away by the goalkeeper and the saves he made.

“When Caoimh was needed he’s pulled off two world-class saves in the first and second half and he’s stepped into Ali’s shoes and done really well today. It’s a credit to him, but we defended well and never gave them too many chances and we had the better chances in the second half,” Alexander-Arnold said.

“But when you are up against a world-class team with a world-class goalkeeper he makes world-class saves. So, like I said, I think a point apiece is fair.”

Brilliant number two

Kelleher is proving every single time that he steps onto the pitch that he has what it takes to be a top Premier League glovesman.

He could start for plenty of teams at this level, but, luckily for Liverpool, he’s currently a backup goalie.

Somewhat strangely, Kelleher has been called upon on a number of occasions over the past 18 months due to several issues Alisson has picked up, but he’s never let the Reds down when he’s been needed.

Liverpool are certainly lucky to have Kelleher in their squad.
