Ruud Gullit told beIN Sports that the more he watches Tottenham striker Harry Kane, ‘the more I see a world-class’ player.

The Dutch legend, who was one of the finest players to have graced the game, also claimed that the Tottenham star ‘doesn’t look fast but he is’.

Kane was unable to prevent Tottenham from failing to a costly North London derby defeat on Sunday, with the Englishman having a goal disallowed and then hitting the woodwork.

But Gullit was waxing-lyrical about Kane’s qualities as a footballer and how he wants to play as a number ten.

“The more I watched him, the more I see as a world-class (player) in him,” said Gullit. “What I like about him is that in the beginning, when he turns, he doesn’t look to try to hit the ball around the player.

“He wants to play the ball between your legs. Nutmeg is how you say it? That’s what he does because he knows the defender always sticks his legs out, so he has scored a lot of goals like that.

“And he is also fast. He doesn’t look fast but he is. What I like is that I understand why he wants to be a 10. He wants to drift out there. He doesn’t want to go into a situation where he has to battle with a defender.

“He gets out of there and he sneakily gets into a position where he can score a goal. The good thing is that the Tottenham players rely on him and trust him. They want to give him the ball. They know if I give it to him then it’s a goal.”

It could be argued that Kane has been one of the players of the season and he will surely be a contender when the awards are up for grabs at the end of the campaign.

The England captain has hit double figures in both goals and assists and he is now hitting the peak of his powers as a footballer.

But if Spurs are unable to win that trophy or progress forward once more then they might just find that they will lose his powers in the long-term.
