Speaking on the UMM YouTube channel, Gary Neville has been discussing Heung-Min Son.
The South Korean was arguably the best player in the Premier League last season, but, for some reason, there’s still this sense that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
Neville was asked if he thinks Son is underrated, and the pundit stated that he thinks the Spurs man is an understated player, similarly to the way Andres Iniesta or David Silva were.
What’s been said?
Neville responded when asked if he thought Son was underrated.
“Understated not underrated. I’m trying to think of a player, it’s like Iniesta or Paul Scholes, they have that manner about them. David Silva, he was a world-class player who was unbelievable for Manchester City for 10 years. Son is an unbelievable player, world-class, but he’s understated, he doesn’t grab the headlines and he’s got Kane next to him. He’s understated not underrated,” Neville said.
Not underrated
Neville is absolutely right about Son. He’s not underrated these days, but he is understated.
Indeed, most people would probably agree that the Spurs attacker is one of the best players on the planet these days, but, for some reason, he’s not a huge headline grabber.
He’s never linked with a move away from Tottenham, he never does anything controversial and you don’t really see him doing all that much on social media.
Son, much like Iniesta and Silva used to, just quietly goes about his business without much fuss.
It’s hard to claim that a Golden Boot winner is underrated, but, as Neville says he certainly is understated – and that’s probably a good thing from Spurs’ point of view.
