Some Liverpool fans are heralding Thiago Alcantara’s return to the first XI.

The Spain international has had a stop-start beginning to the season on Merseyside.

Actually, you could say the same about his 14-month stint at Liverpool as a whole, following a £20 million move from Bayern Munich in 2020.

But when he’s fit, Thiago is a maestro for the Reds and his latest performance in the 4-0 drubbing of Arsenal proves that.

Making his third Premier League start since last season, the 30-year-old was almost unplayable for Jurgen Klopp last night.

According to WhoScored, Thiago had 93 touches – the second-most of any Liverpool player – and clocked a passing success of 94 percent.

He pulled all the strings so effectively and effortlessly for the Anfield club against the Gunners.

And here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to his performance on Twitter:

Vindication

People give Klopp and Michael Edwards a bit of stick for not replacing Georginio Wijnaldum.

But when you have midfielders like Thiago – and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who also impressed – then it’s easy to see Liverpool didn’t spend millions on a Wijnaldum replacement.

The Reds have a ridiculous amount of quality midfielders at their disposal.

The problem is most of them are injury prone but, when fit, Klopp and Edwards certainly seem vindicated in failing to sign another one this past summer.
