1) Unbelievable volley in the MLS
If you liked Papiss Cisse’s volley for Newcastle, you will love this goal. It was scored in the MLS in midweek by Eric Hassli, to earn the Vancouver Whitecaps a 1-1 draw against Toronto. The French journeyman was loaned to Southampton 10 years ago, but never made a first team appearance.

2) Hertha Berlin appeal relegation because of pitch invasion
Skandal! Scream the German papers. The relegation/promotion play-off for a Bundesliga place was contested between Hertha Berlin, and Fortuna Dusseldorf, trying to win promotion back to the top flight for the first thing in 15 years. Fortuna won 4-3 on aggregate, but the controversy started when fans invaded the pitch before the final whistle. Berlin claim the result should be void, and contest the result. Fortuna have even been forced to cancel planned celebrations this weekend while they await the German FA’s verdict. Those crazy German fans…
3) Substitute goalkeeper saves goal- even though he is not playing
Off to the crazy world of Argentinian football, right down into the fourth division, we have a great video for you here. In a match between Huracan Las Hera and Atletico Union, the goalkeeper, Fernando Espinoza, who was warming up as a substitute off the pitch, leant a helping hand to keep the ball out during a goalmouth scramble, and walked off slyly as if nothing had happened. When the referee spotted it, he decided to just book him and award the opposition a corner instead of a penalty. We think he had a lucky escape.
4) Alex inspires Fenerbahce to first cup win in 29 years
Fenerbahce are one of the giants of Turkish football, so their wait for a Turkish Cup win had to end sooner or later. It was fitting that it would be their captain, 34-year-old Brazilian playmaker, Alex, who pulled the strings. They defeated Buraspor 4-0, with Alex scoring one and assisting three. He has been playing for Fener since 2004, scoring more than 130 times in 240 games. The goal of the game was scored by fellow Brazilian Cristian Baroni, who fired a rocket into the top corner after an Alex backheel.
5) Riot police separate arguing coaches
If you think the ‘handbags’ so often seen between Premier League managers are worth noting, just wait until you see this. In a match taking place in a Brazilian regional final, managers Celso Teixeira and Gilberto Peirera’s bickering and arguing got so bad, riot police had to be called into separate them, we’re not kidding. Watch the video below to see for yourselves. It gets good around one minute in. In a twist to the saga, both teams, Itabaiana and Confianca meet again to contest the second leg next week.
