Sam Winnall’s deadline day move to Derby County, as part of a loan exchange involving Jacob Butterfield, has sent Sheffield Wednesday Twitter into debate.
In one corner, there are those left ‘gutted’ by Wednesday’s decision to lend out the £500,000 January recruit; who think Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal has ‘lost it’ and that the likes of Lucas Joao and Atdhe Nuhiu should have gone first.

In the other, there are those who feel it was the right call, understanding Carvalhal’s squad was unbalanced and that, maybe, there was no interest in Joao or Nuhiu – so something else had to give.
You can probably guess which side of the argument this writer is on.
Regardless, it would appear that those who believe Winnall is anything other than a good footballer who, given the chance, will do well for Derby County, are very much in the minority.
