Mark Lawrenson told Off the Ball that Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott would have learnt a valuable lesson this season that he has to ‘work harder’.
The Spurs academy product endured a difficult period on the domestic circuit during the recently concluded campaign.
It all started with his loan spell at Millwall, which was cut short in January, and then he ended up at League One, Ipswich, where those troubles didn’t stop.
But, on a positive note for the 19-year-old, he did end the campaign by scoring a brace for the Republic of Ireland recently.
And ex-Ireland international and BBC pundit, Lawrenson, thinks Parrott has ‘massive potential’, but he would have learnt more during this campaign than he has ever done before.
“The thing with Troy, over the course of the last season, he has probably learnt more about the game,” said Lawrenson. “He’s learnt more about himself.
“He’s probably learnt the fact that he might have to work harder. He’ll be getting coached every single day because if a player is struggling, you don’t suddenly drop him because they think he has massive potential.
“Everyone has a season of (struggle). Even the top players, come into the Premier League, have a great season and then the next season they’re not quite as good.”

It’s more than likely going to be another loan spell for Parrott next season, but he has to start showcasing some level of improvement.
Patience is required with the Spurs youngster, but if he struggles again in 2021/22 then many will start to ask questions.
But as Harry Kane has proven during his career, his loan spells didn’t go to plan, but he has now turned out to be one of the Premier League greats.
And if Parrott can take a leaf out of the Englishman’s book then it will serve him pretty well.
