Jonathan Woodgate has suggested on talkSPORT that Ledley King could ‘take over’ from Jose Mourinho at Tottenham when he leaves.
The former centre-back thinks King will be ‘learning’ under Mourinho’s stewardship at Spurs and that might eventually lead him towards going into management.
King, 40, joined Tottenham’s backroom staff in the summer and it was a shrewd appointment by Mourinho given that he likes his teams to be aggressive and combative-minded.
Nonetheless, Woodgate, who played alongside King during their days at White Hart Lane, shared his thoughts on his former teammate.
“I think it’s fantastic for Ledley,” said Woodgate. “He was a great player and he will turn out to be a good coach. He’s learning under Mourinho’s stewardship again and it’s another fantastic thing for Ledley to do.
“He will take everything on board and then when Mourinho leaves, he might take over or he might move on and do something else in his career apart from coaching and go into management.
“So, it’s a good learning experience for Ledley.”
There is this trend for club legends to seemingly take over the club’s they either thrived at.
Frank Lampard at Chelsea is a prime example, whilst down the road, Mikel Arteta has taken the helm at Arsenal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is another legend walking the touchlines, whilst a certain Steven Gerrard, currently the manager of Rangers, is seemingly destined to become Liverpool boss one day.
So, could the path one day lead to King taking to the Tottenham throne?
