Jonathan Woodgate has said on Stadium Astro that Tottenham Hotspur will not be able to catch Liverpool or Manchester City in the forceable future.
The former Tottenham central defender made the comments while giving his take on the future of star striker Harry Kane.
Woodgate believes that if Spanish giants Real Madrid come calling, then the England international striker should not hesitate to leave Spurs.
The former Middlesbrough manager himself left Newcastle United for Madrid in 2004.
Woodgate said on Stadium Astro, as transcribed by Goal.com: “If Real Madrid come in for you – especially Harry Kane – he has got to go. If he wants to win trophies and get onto that next pedestal of Messi, Ronaldo and that type of player, he has to go.
“I don’t see him winning the league at Spurs, not this season and not in the next few seasons, they have got too much building to do to get up there with Liverpool and Man City. For me, if he wants to win the European Cup then he has got a chance of winning it at Real Madrid.”
Staying positive
Liverpool and City have arguably the two strongest squads in the Premier League at the moment.
However, as the league table this season shows, the Reds and the Citizens are not invincible.
Both Liverpool and City have dropped points and have shown vulnerability, and with Jose Mourinho in charge of Spurs, the North London club’s fans will feel confident of a successful season.
True, Spurs do not exactly play great football, but under Mourinho at the moment, the North London club are getting the job done and are very much in the race for the Premier League title this season.
