At the start of February, Chicago Fire announced the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri, who left Liverpool in 2021 to join Lyon.
The Switzerland international has signed a contract until 2024, and during his unveiling in the United States, he revealed that Jürgen Klopp reached out to him.
What’s the story?
Well, the 30-year-old shared the news that Klopp sent him a text message after his move to Chicago Fire was confirmed.
During a press conference, Shaqiri said: “Jürgen, I had a really good relationship with him. He texted me and congratulated me for this transfer. We still stay in contact.”
What a lovely gesture from the German.
Klopp didn’t have to send Shaqiri anything, as it’s been a while since the Swiss sensation was involved with Liverpool.
However, it speaks volumes about the 54-year-old’s intense man management style that he still does things like this, even once his players have gone their separate ways.
It also says a lot about the togetherness of Liverpool nowadays.
Shaqiri was rarely named in the starting XI, although the fact he still has good relations with those at Anfield says a lot about how the Reds treat their fringe players.
Xherdan Shaqiri was superb for Liverpool

In our view, Shaqiri’s efforts for Liverpool go under the radar.
The former Bayern Munich maestro played a key role in the famous 4-0 win over Barcelona at Anfield, providing the cross for Gini Wijnaldum’s second goal.
Shaqiri also delivered vital contributions in the 2018/19 Premier League campaign, as Liverpool nearly beat Manchester City to the title.

The Swiss star scored two goals in a 3-1 win over Manchester United, and also delivered a brilliant cross for Divock Origi to score a late winner away to Newcastle, which kept the title race alive.
As far as fringe players go, Shaqiri was a truly outstanding one to have.
