Aston Villa loanee James Bree is a ‘wonderful player’ according to Luton Town manager Nathan Jones, who compares the right-back to Bournemouth ace Jack Stacey in conversation with Luton Today.
Whether the forgotten man of Villa Park will ever join a former Hatters favourite in the Premier League, however, remains to be seen.
Bree was farmed out on loan to Luton once Dean Smith’s side had secured their return to the top-flight last summer and, with the Midland giants plummeting like a stone, it seems that his parent club will be a Championship team again before too long.
Though while 2019/20 is turning out to be a season to forget for Aston Villa, Bree has been a man reborn since moving to Kenilworth Road.
And, after another impressive performance in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley on Tuesday night, you’d imagine that Luton boss Jones would jump at the chance to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis if Aston Villa are willing to sell.
“I thought defensively and moving forward, he was excellent, obviously his best game for me,” the former Stoke City boss says.
“I think he’d be a wonderful player, given time to work with him and he reminds me a lot of Jack Stacey in terms of stature and athleticism.
“It’s just about the application and the work he needs that he hasn’t had, but he was excellent.”
Not one but two Luton full-backs swapped Bedfordshire for the top flight last summer, with Stacey joining Bournemouth in a £4 million deal while James Justin headed to Leicester City.
With that in mind, you’d imagine that there will be plenty of Premier League scouts keeping an eye on things at Kenilworth Road with the transfer window creaking open.
