Brendan Rodgers has praised ‘the quality’ Diogo Jota has brought to Liverpool since signing for the club, as he told his post-match press conference.

Liverpool beat Leicester City on penalties in the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night, with Jota being one of the difference makers at Anfield.

Even though Jota didn’t start the game, he came off the bench to help his team, who had been 2-0 and 3-1 down, to peg the game back at 3-2 before Takumi Minamino scored a stoppage-equaliser.

Thriving shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher then became the star of the show by saving two penalties before Jota fired in the winning spot-kick.

This is what Rodgers had to say about the Portugal international, who has turned into a goalscoring machine on Merseyside.

“The quality and depth of squad that Jurgen will have,” said Rodgers. “And the quality of players they can bring in, of course, it can really push you.

“But Jota takes his touch and it’s a wonderful finish. That’s the quality he has brought to Liverpool.”

During his days at Wolves, Jota scored on 44 occasions for the club from his 131 matches.

In 52 games for the Reds, the 25-year-old has already managed 25 goals and he is on course to smash that tally he produced at Molineux.

Even this season, he has ten Premier League goals to his name – the second-highest goalscorer in the league.

But it’s probably not getting the recognition it deserves because the man in front of him, and his teammate, Mo Salah, is just ripping it all up in all departments, so, understandably, a lot of the limelight is on him.
