Former Aston Villa coach Michael Beale has taken to Twitter to rave about Calvin Bassey, a player Villans manager Steven Gerrard reportedly wanted to sign in the summer transfer window before he left Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers for Ajax.

Bassey was on the books of Rangers from 2020 until 2022 before he moved to Ajax.

According to Sky Sports, Ajax paid Rangers £19.6 million in transfer fees for the 22-year-old, who can operate as a left-back or as a centre-back.
