According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Andreas Christensen about a potential move to north London at the end of the season.

The Danish defender is out of contract at Chelsea this summer, and while he’s been linked to the likes of Bayern Munich, Spurs are seemingly keen on offering him the chance to stay in London.

Spurs need to bolster their defence, so this signing makes the world of sense, while Antonio Conte also has an ongoing relationship with the centre-half having managed him at Chelsea.

In fact, Conte has previously stated that he trusts Christensen in the defence, labelling him as a ‘wonderful’ player.

What’s been said?

Conte spoke about Christensen on a number of occasions, but perhaps his biggest piece of praise came after a game against Barcelona in 2018.

“Christensen is having a fantastic season and he is showing great maturity. His performance was wonderful,” Conte said.

“I trust Christensen. I think this player is the present and also for the future for Chelsea. He can also become the captain of this team.”

What Spurs need

Tottenham have so many issues in their defence at the moment, and the one thing they need is a defender the manager can trust.

Yes, Conte seems like a big fan of Eric Dier, but as the Englishman has shown in recent seasons, he’s not always the most consistent performer.

Christensen may not be leagues ahead of the defenders Tottenham have right now, but he’s a player Conte has a lot of faith in, and often, that’s all that matters.
