Whelan moved to Aston Villa earlier this year after nearly a decade of service at Stoke City.
Glenn Whelan in action for Aston Villa
Aston Villa may be seven games unbeaten after Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Burton Albion, but some Villans supporters are still not convinced by Glenn Whelan. The 33-year-old arrived from Stoke City earlier this year, where he was regarded as one of the club’s finest servants.
A deep-lying midfielder, Whelan was perhaps never going to be a glamorous signing. But according to some, he failed to even get the basics right down at the Pirelli Stadium.
Not all Villa fans saw it that way, however. With a handful appreciative of the former Stoke man’s role in a team which has, in fairness, experienced much transition over the past 12 months.
But what do you think? Is Whelan really ‘horrific’? Or has he turned a corner at Villa? Was there even a corner to turn?
Josh Onomah scores for Aston Villa
In terms of the match itself, the Villans raced into a 3-0 lead inside 32 minutes in Staffordshire, courtesy of goals from Keinan Davis, Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass.
Substitute Josh Onomah the added a fourth midway through the second half, to leave Steve Bruce’s side two points outside the play-off positions in eighth.
