The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Wolves would be open to high-value offers for Adama Traore.

The report quoted £70 million for the winger, who has just been called up to the Spain squad after an outstanding 2019/20.

We’ve put together three reasons Wolves should be looking to keep Traore at all costs.

His skillset is unique

Put simply, there aren’t many – if any – players in world football with Traore’s speed and skill.

Yes, for £70 million Wolves should be able to secure a very handy replacement, especially with their strong record and connections in the transfer market.

But the chances they will be as searingly fast as Traore are next to zero.

Traore is so exciting because he’s so unique. Wolves won’t find another like him on the open market.

Versatility

Traore took a little while to find a role in Nuno Espirito Santo’s system, but now he has a number of them.

He can play right wing-back, and across the frontline in whichever format Santo chooses.

A large part of Wolves’ strength is how well drilled they are and Traore is now fully familiar with Santo’s system.

Any replacement would take the time to get up to speed and preparation time is at a premium with the short break between seasons.

Send yet another message

Wolves have a squad packed with exciting talents, of the right age to improve further but also now proven in the Premier League.

That likely makes them enticing for potential suitors, but Wolves haven’t yet had a player picked off – or even looked especially likely to.

If Wolves can go another summer keeping all their top talent and adding to it – even without European football – it sends exactly the right message out to the rest of the division.

Traore is a key part of what Wolves are trying to do.
