Wolves are looking to bring £15 million Roma forward Eldor Shomurodov to the Premier League with Jose Mourinho’s Serie A giants listening to offers, as reported by Gianluca di Marzio.

You probably know by now that only three teams in England’s top flight scored fewer goals than Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2021/22. And, yes, all three ended up in the relegation zone.

But with Raul Jimenez facing a month out of action – and with Fabio Silva now on loan at Anderlecht – things could still get worse before they get better. After all, Bruno Lage has Patrick Cutrone, Leo Bonatini and Hwang Hee-Chan as his only forward options ahead of Saturday’s league opener away at Leeds United.

Hardly a who’s who of prolific Premier League marksmen.

Raul Jimenez injury gives Wolves a massive problem

No wonder Wolves are keeping tabs on Shomurodov’s situation. The explosive Uzbekistan international is available for transfer after a hit-and-miss stint in the Italian capital. Per Di Marzio, Roma will let £15 million Shomurodov leave on loan, albeit with an obligation-to-buy clause included in his contract.

Wolves face competition from Torino and Bologna.

Shomurodov, who’s scored 31 goals in 57 caps for his country and caught the eye with Genoa in 2020/21, found the net a grand total of five times under Mourinho at Roma; His opportunities restricted by the formidable form of Tammy Abraham.

Paulo Dybala has now arrived from Juventus, with Andrea Belotti reportedly set to follow.

Interestingly, Shomurodov was left out of Mourinho’s squad for the 1-0 friendly victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

“Eldor did not go to the game with Tottenham,” says agent Kahorm Muminov (Soccer RU). “As he is one step away from moving to another team.”

Uzbek legend Odil Ahmedov believes his 27-year-old compatriot has the talent to play for one of Europe’s biggest clubs. But, after failing to make his mark at Roma, Shomurodov may have to settle for a club who finished tenth in the Premier League instead.

“I believe that, in the future, he could play for Real Madrid or Barcelona,” Ahmedov said.

“Shomurodov has everything. (His move to Roma) is a great joy for the whole of Uzbekistan. He popularises football in the country and sets a great example for everyone.”
