Wolves are stepping up their pursuit of a replacement for Rui Patricio with Fiorentina’s Serie A record-breaking shot-stopper Bartlomiej Dragowski on their radar, as reported by The Telegraph.
Patricio may not be a Roma player just yet but that could change very soon.
According to Il Romanista, the Portugal international has agreed a three-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico, one that would see him take home £40,000 a week in the Italian capital.
And Wolverhampton Wanderers, determined not to be left in the lurch, are wasting no time in their pursuit of a long-term successor.
Jorge Mendes, the super-agent who plays such a key role in the club’s transfer strategy, is pushing for a deal that would see Olympiacos shot-stopper Jose Sa move to England in a deal worth £9 million.
Reports earlier this month even suggested Sa – a 6ft 4in shot-stopper who should have no problems adapting to the physicality of the Premier League – had all but agreed a move to Wolves.
The Porto man isn’t the only option under consideration, however.
The Telegraph has now thrown Dragowski’s name into the frame.
Wolves see Dragowski as Patricio replacement
The latest in a long line of talented goalkeepers to emerge from Poland, 23-year-old Dragowski famously broke the record for the most saves in a single Serie A game in 2019, making a remarkable 19 during a goalless draw with Atalanta.
The former Empoli loanee has gone from strength to strength since, his gravity-defying performances between the sticks at Fiorentina catching the eye of German giants Borussia Dortmund, as well as Wolves.
“Yes, I can confirm that,” his agent told FirenzeViola recently when asked about interest from BVB.
“Of course, I’m very happy big clubs that play in the Champions League are interested in Dragowski.”
Wolves may not be able to offer elite-level European football but they could hand Dragowski the chance to make his name in arguably the most high-profile competition on the continent, boosting his international prospects in the process.
