Wolverhampton Wanderers’ FA Cup trip to face Liverpool has caused some debate among their fanbase.
The second that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ visit to Anfield was confirmed, fans flocked to the website in order to find out what the situation was going to be with ticket sales. As is the case with any high profile FA Cup tie there was extremely high demand, and with tickets now being sold out there are over 8,000 confirmed Wanderers fans that will be traveling north this weekend.
However, not everyone is too pleased about how the tickets have been allocated. Many fans are upset about the fact that season ticket holders, who haven’t been to quite a few games in what has been a difficult campaign, are being prioritised over others. More specifically, those who actually attended games like the 3rd Round tie against Stoke that got Wolves to Anfield.
It’s a tricky situation but the majority of fans will be well aware of the structure for these kind of clashes, as it’s been the system for quite a few years now. Naturally a lot of people will see this as their only chance for a while to travel to a ground like Anfield with the club, but given that it’s been selected for television coverage it seems that some fans will settle with watching it on the box.
It certainly stimulates some debate regarding a team that has struggled to fill their stadium on account of poor form at times this season. Should those that supported the team at Stoke have more pronounced priority?
In general a lot of people seem to have a problem with the whole premise of more supporters choosing to have days out when some more “hardcore” fans risk missing out. Which ever camp you fall into, given the nature of football these days it doesn’t seem likely that the trend will die out any time soon.
