According to a new report by Spanish newspaper AS, Atletico Madrid are eyeing a transfer for Wolves youngster Hugo Bueno in the summer.

The Spanish left-back put pen to paper for the club’s academy in 2019 and went on to make his debut this season against Nottingham Forest.

Since then, the 20-year-old has made 10 Premier League starts for Julen Lopetegui’s side, which goes to show how highly he is rated by the ex-Sevilla manager.

However, AS have reported Atletico Madrid may be planning to break Wolves’ hearts, as they have set their sights on a transfer for Hugo Bueno in the summer.

In addition, the report mentions that Diego Simeone’s men believe that they could get a deal over the line, since they have a strong relationship with the English club.

But it has been stated that Wolves are unlikely to be open to a transfer involving Hugo Bueno, described as ‘quality’ by Lopetegui (BBC Sport) despite Atletico Madrid showing interest as he was tied down to a contract till 2026 in November last year.

Atleti, however feel the talented defender fits the profile of player they are looking to sign, as they do not have a massive budget and are aiming to bring in young players with high ceiling rather than established big-names.

Tough for Wolves to keep hold of the phenomenon

While Hugo Bueno must be buzzing to have become a regular starter for Wolves this season, saying no to a return to Spain by accepting a transfer to Atletico Madrid would be a tough call to make for the talent.

Additionally, Julen Lopetegui’s side, who are currently 17th in the league table, whilst being level on points with 18th placed Bournemouth are in danger of relegation.

Keeping that in mind, the highly-rated defender may well embrace the transfer advances made by Atletico Madrid and leave Wolves in the summer.
