Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured homegrown star and captain Danny Batth to a new four-year contract, and supporters were quick to have their say on the news on Twitter.
As the first existing member of the squad to sign a new deal since Shanghai-based Fosun International took over the club this summer, he is a crucial link to the club’s recent past while the new signings come in to try and take the team to a new level and stage of their history.
With 159 appearances to his name at Wolves since joining at the turn of the century, the giant defender will now be hoping to help his side return to the Premier League after what has been a six year absence, not least so that he can make his top flight debut at his boyhood club.
Batth made his debut for Wolves the season they were last in the Premier League, in 2010-11, but only in a League Cup win over Southend United. Despite making it to the bench in the league that year, against Manchester City no less, the centre-back never made it on to the pitch in the league, and ended up getting most of his senior football on loan before making his league debut for the club in 2012.
He has been a key man since, and was crucial in helping the side get back to the Championship in 2014 under Kenny Jackett.
