Wolves’ position in seventh place has been secured after Leicester’s defeat.

It caps an impressive season, Wolves’ first back in the Premier League.

Long serving star Matt Doherty says he is thrilled with the way the campaign has gone, and says his own performances have been a pleasant surprise.

The 27-year-old told the club’s official website: “I think that’s eight assists now. I probably didn’t think that would be realistic at the start of the season, but I guess we didn’t know what level of football we’d end up playing. It’s always nice to contribute.

“I’m really happy with my contribution. I grew up dreaming of playing in the Premier League, so I’m happy to have played almost every game and to have contributed in the way that I have.”

Doherty signed a new contract earlier this season amid speculation in the Irish Independent linking him with a move to Tottenham.

The jury was out before the season on whether he would be able to cut it in the top flight, and he has answered the doubters emphatically.

Doherty has also managed eight goals this season, four in the Premier League and four during Wolves’ FA Cup run.
