Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Kortney Hause sparked debate last night on social media by claiming Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is a superior player to Steven Gerrard.

Commenting during Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Hoffenheim, Hause praised 27-year-old Henderson, shortly after he had set up Roberto Firmino to score the Reds’ fourth.

Hause, 22, has represented England at under-21 level and is a key part of the Wolves squad.

Gerrard captained Liverpool to the Champions League in 2005 and FA Cup in 2006, playing a huge part in winning both trophies.

While he fell short of winning a title winner’s medal, Henderson is yet to win any trophies as Liverpool captaibn.

Henderson had a great game against Hoffenheim, but the ‘better than Gerrard’ claim is one not even he would surely agree with.

While it could be argued to some degree that Gerrard underachieved at Liverpool in the latter half of his career and the failure to win a title is a blot on his record, Henderson has a long way to go to even come close to contributing what his predecessor did to the Reds.
