Rather than pursuing Sunderland’s Lamine Kone should Everton consider these Championship centre-backs from Middlesbrough, Reading and Wolves instead?
Lasse Vibe of Brentford and Lamine Kone of Sunderland challenge for the ball during the Sky Bet Championship match at Griffin Park.
Sunderland’s Lamine Kone is on Everton’s shortlist ahead of the January transfer window, reports the Sunderland Echo, as manager Sam Allardyce considers a reunion with the defender.
When he was Black Cats boss, Allardyce brought Kone to English football in 2016 when signing him from Lorient but is the 28-year-old the best centre-back option in the Championship for the Toffees?
Here are three arguably better choices.
Willy Boly of Wolverhampton Wanderers motivates his teammates during the Sky Bet Championship match against Fulham.
Willy Boly
Currently on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers from Porto but while there has been speculation surrounding permanent deals for fellow loanees Leo Bonatini and Diogo Jota, as yet there is now news concerning Boly.
That could give Allardyce the perfect opportunity to swoop in and sign someone who has been key to Wolves’ success so far this season and looks ready for Premier League football.
Ben Gibson
Greatly impressed in the top flight of English football last season despite Middlesbrough’s relegation and was linked with several moves over the summer, none of which materialised.
Boro bouncing back from the second tier at the first time of asking is by no way guaranteed after an indifferent campaign so far, although the Birmingham Mail reports that they are still adamant Gibson is going nowhere.
Liam Moore of Reading during the Sky Bet Championship match against Sunderland.
Liam Moore
According to the Express the Reading man has interested both Celtic and West Ham United in recent times with his impressive performances.
Moore was key in the Royals marching to the playoff final last term following a summer switch from Leicester City and arguably now has the experience required to compete at the top.
