Ex-Celtic defender Saidy Janko could land a Premier League move with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Whilst Celtic ultimately couldn’t prevent the likes of Fraser Forster, Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama from moving on in recent years, they have – like any other club – let some players go that could have been useful.
Midfielder Liam Henderson is thriving over in Italy, winger Eamonn Brophy is in fine form for Kilmarnock, and Teemu Pukki has been prolific since leaving Celtic.
Another player to fit that category is right back Saidy Janko, who was signed from Manchester United by Ronny Deila back in the summer of 2015, with the intention of adding a young right back who could be moulded for the future.
The Swiss talent, 23, lasted just one year before Brendan Rodgers loaned him out to Barnsley and then sold him to Saint-Etienne in 2017, where some promising displays landed him a move to Porto and a subsequent loan switch to Nottingham Forest this past summer.
Janko is now impressing for Forest, and The Sun report that Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in handing him a Premier League move in 2019, most likely when his loan move to Forest ends next summer.
Janko would surely compete with Matt Doherty in the right wing back role at Molineux, and the mere suggestion that Janko could be earning a Premier League move may leave Celtic embarrassed at letting him go so easily and so early.
Not only that, but Janko was signed to be Mikael Lustig’s successor down the line, and the Swede has just months left on his contract, and Celtic still don’t have a clear replacement in mind, with Cristian Gamboa also looking likely to leave.
If Celtic and Rodgers had persevered with Janko a little longer, they may have had a Premier League-calibre right back on their hands – and instead, they cashed in at the first opportunity and may be left scrambling for a right back themselves in 2019 as the youngster gears up for a potentially major move.
