Wolverhampton Wanderers need to sign a central midfielder this summer after losing Alfred N’Diaye, in order to bring the best out of Portugal international Ruben Neves once again.
Sitting in holding midfield, N’Diaye gave license for Neves to roam around the middle of the park, dictating Wolves’ attacks but also helping the Midlands giants out when out of possession.
Nuno Espirito Santo knows that the club need another midfielder who can sit in front of the back four and give protection to a side that will not have it all their own way – as they did last season.
A wise head is required, and it should convince Santo to consider an ambitious move to bring 55-time Italy international Claudio Marchisio to Molineux after it was reported that he could leave Juventus this summer.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his official website that Marchisio, who has played for Juve all his life and clocked up a huge total of 389 appearances for the Italian champions, is generating plenty of interest.
The report claims Marchisio has offers from French giants AS Monaco, as well as lucrative deals that would see the hard-working midfielder move to the United Arab Emirates.
But there is plenty of energy left in Marchisio’s legs and he certainly still has two or three years left in European football, if indeed he chooses to remain in this continent.
His experience and winning mentality would be a huge coup for Wolves, who have the spending power to bring a player like Marchisio to the Midlands. Indeed, Marchisio would be Santo’s perfect summer signing.
