Seedorf. It’s a name that jumps off the pitch. The mere mention of one of the most gifted midfielders of this or any generation, still the only player to win to the Champions League with three different clubs, will induce nostalgia in each and every football fan with even the haziest nineties memories.
Therefore, you can excuse Wolves fans for getting a little excited by the news that his relation, 18-year-old Sherwin, has been added to the club’s development squad, as reported by the Express and Star.
Clarence may have spent his teenage years lugging Ol’ Big Ears with Ajax rather than honing his trade on the development pitches of the Midlands but Seedorf Jr will be desperate to shed the pressure of his illustrious name and prove that he can make the grade in his own right.
And he could hardly be in a better place. Wolves boss Paul Lambert confirmed after his appointment in October that he would be keeping a close eye on the club’s young talent after watching on in awe as the reserves swept aside a senior Accrington Stanley side 4-0 in the Checkatrade trophy.
Since then, 19-year-old striker Bright Enobakhare (below) and 18-year-old midfielder Connor Ronan have been handed their first-team debuts, describing the latter’s senior bow in last month’s draw with Sheffield Wednesday as one the most eye-catching performances he had seen from a young player, the Express and Star reported.
Now it’s up to Seedorf to catch his attention. With a name like that, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
