Wolverhampton Wanderers have shared a training-ground clip of Matt Doherty performing some drills as he continues to recover from injury, the club describing it proudly as “a step forward”.

The 27-year-old featured in every league game for Wolves last season, starting all but three (Transfermarkt), as Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges finished an impressive seventh in the table and, on top of that, impressed in the FA Cup by reaching the semi-finals.

However, Doherty was not included in the Wanderers contingent which travelled for the Premier League Asia Trophy – which they won – as he was suffering from an injury reported by the Express & Star as being a small knee ligament problem.

In conversation with talkSPORT, he said he would be aiming to be back by the end of this week or start of next week, with Jonny Castro, Adama Traore and Dion Sanderson also able to play at wing-back and able to cover for him in the meantime.

Doherty very much seems on the mend and on schedule judging by the video posted by Wolves on their social media feed:

Wolves’ next game is their Europa League second qualifying round second leg against Northern Ireland’s Crusaders this Thursday, and should they progress, the first leg of their third qualifying round will take place the following Thursday, three days before their Premier League opener away at Leicester City.
