The Telegraph have claimed that Championship winners Wolverhampton Wanderers must splash out £10million on striker Benik Afobe, if they want to sign him permanently. But is he really worth the eight-figure fee?

Joining Wolves on a permanent basis in January 2015, Afobe scored an impressive 23 goals in 47 games for the Midlands club before Bournemouth signed him a year later for around £15million.

However, he has failed to find any form of consistency at the Vitality Stadium since his move, with the likes of Jermaine Defoe, Callum Wilson and Josh King preferred to the DR Congo international.

It saw Afobe rejoin Wolves in January of this year, where he has scored six goals in 16 Championship appearances – somewhat lacking in the form that endeared him to Wolves fans during his first spell.

Bournemouth and manager Eddie Howe will be looking to recuperate much of the fee they spent to sign Afobe, but the report claims the Cherries will accept a £5million loss on Afobe.

But with just 10 goals in 63 Premier League appearances throughout his career, is Afobe the striker Wolves really need to spearhead their fight against relegation next season?

At £10million, Afobe would be a pricey purchase under Nuno Espirito Santo and the pressure of the transfer fee, as well as scoring against Premier League defenders would surely hamper his chances of proving his worth.

Wolves must seriously consider looking at other options for the same price, before making a decision on whether to sign former Arsenal striker Afobe this summer.
