Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly tabled a £4.5million offer for a World Cup winger.

Newcastle United’s struggles in the transfer market continue to drag on, as Rafa Benitez remains frustrated by owner Mike Ashley’s tight stronghold on the Toon coffers.

It has seen Newcastle only make one signing this summer, confirming a permanent deal for Martin Dubravka after an excellent loan spell at St. James’ Park during the second half of the 2017-18 season.

If Benitez is to finally bring some new faces into Newcastle, the only way it seems that he will be able to convince Ashley to get his chequebook out is if those signings are on the cheap.

That should convince the Newcastle manager to look at some of the impressive, yet unknown stars currently shining at this summer’s World Cup. Indeed, Egypt’s Trezeguet is one of those.

His excellent, hard-working and passionate displays alongside Liverpool’s Mo Salah saw Egypt perform admirably in Group A, before eventually being knocked out. Russia and Uruguay qualified.

Since then, Turkish outlet Hurriyet claim newly-promoted Wolves have activated the £4.5million clause in Trezeguet’s Anderlecht contract. It is believed Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have offered the 23-year-old a £20,000-a-week contract.

For a player of Trezeguet’s quality, such a deal seems like a bargain – especially when you consider his 2017-18 form. Starring on loan Turkish side Kasimpasa, Trezeguet scored 16 goals and added eight assists in 33 matches.

Benitez needs a winger with Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy hardly showing the kind of quality required last season, and he should do all he can to convince Ashley to match Wolves’ bid for Trezeguet.
