Matt Doherty was reportedly under threat this summer and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ attempts to land Swansea City’s left-back could be the final straw.
You can’t help but wonder whether Stephen Kingsley has missed his chance at Swansea City.
The 23-year-old left-back was a regular in the first half of last season but, when Paul Clement arrived in January and made Norwich City flyer Martin Olsson one of his first additions, Kingsley found opportunities much more difficult to come by.
Though, to Clement’s credit, Olsson proved to be a superb addition and, in truth, Kingsley did little to suggest that he could make the grade in England’s top flight.

The former Falkirk youngster, who made his senior Scotland bow in a 3-0 defeat to France in June last year, appeared to lack the technical quality to thrive in a Swansea side renowned for their ball playing ways, even if they did utilise a more direct approach under Clement to get the best out of targetman Fernando Llorente.
Therefore, it would not be a huge surprise if Kingsley was sold this summer, though The Telegraph claims Swansea have rejected an initial offer from big-spending Championship hopefuls Wolves.
As it stands, the second tier appears a more fitting platform for Kingsley. Though while a move to Molineux would be an excellent opportunity for the left-back to play regular first-team football, it may pose another problem to Matt Doherty.
Final straw?
According to the Express and Star, the Republic of Ireland full-back may be replaced at Wolves this summer and it certainly looks like that is the case. Though a natural right-back, Doherty featured mostly on the left last season.
But, if Kingsley signs, he will be the third new left-back at Molineux this summer following fellow Scot Barry Douglas and 18-year-old Ruben Vingare, landed on loan from Monaco.
And if you thought Douglas would simply switch back to the right, the addition of Phil Ofosu-Ayeh from German second tier outfit Eintracht Braunschweig means he may fall down the pecking order altogether.

The Sun (page 61, Juy 9th) linked Leeds United with a summer move for Doherty and it would not be a major surprise to see him rock up at Elland Road.
