Rafael Benitez is interested in the Wolves job as he eyes a return to the Premier League – but he isn’t sure about Nottingham Forest.

Wolves have sacked boss Bruno Lage, bringing an end to his time in charge on Sunday evening.

The decision came just 24 hours after Wolves had lost 2-0 away at West Ham United in another disappointing display.

Wolves must now go and find a new manager to replace Lage, with a host of Portuguese options already linked.

Rafael Benitez is interested in the Wolves job

One man Wolves may now have to make a decision on is the former Everton and Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez.

90Min claim that Benitez has shown an interest in taking the Wolves job as he seeks a return to English football.

Whether Wolves are interested is another matter but Benitez is seemingly throwing his hat into the ring as Lage’s replacement.

The Spaniard, 62, has been out of work since being sacked by Everton in January of this year.

How Everton thought that move would work is beyond us, with Everton fans completely against the former Liverpool boss from the word go.

Benitez did a fine job at Newcastle United though, winning 62 of his 146 games in charge before heading to China with Dalian Professional.

A Champions League winner at Liverpool, Benitez is vastly experienced and knows the Premier League well.

Yet there are very legitimate questions about his style of play in the modern game with Newcastle and Everton both pretty attritional under him.

Wolves have been struggling for goals under Lage so going with a fairly pragmatic manager in Benitez may not be what fans are seeking.

This news comes amid claims from the Daily Mail that Benitez isn’t interested in taking over at Nottingham Forest.

Steve Cooper is under huge pressure at Forest after just one Premier League win this season and Benitez was suggested as his replacement on Monday night.

Benitez seemingly has doubts about Forest though and is more interested in Wolves, who will now have a decision to make.
