Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White labelled Jota ‘sensational’ on Instagram after his former teammate netted a hat-trick for Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Reds put five past Atalanta in Italy, with Jota playing perhaps the best football he has produced since his move to England.
When Jota moved to Anfield from Wolves in the summer, a lot of eyebrows were raised about the fee those on Merseyside paid for his services.
Well, he is proving the doubters wrong in a quite specular fashion and his latest performance just tops it all off.
This was the message Jota posted on Instagram, with Gibbs-White simply responding in the comments section: ‘Sensational’.
Whilst ex-Reds defender Jose Enrique wrote ‘What a game Diogo. Congratulations for the 3 goals’.
Rhys Williams, who helped Liverpool keep a clean sheet on the night, simply wrote: ‘starboy’.
Jota was picked ahead of the out-of-form Roberto Firmino, with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane keeping their places in the XI.
It was a pretty strong team from Jurgen Klopp and it will be interesting to see if he now sticks with his summer signing up top for their clash against Manchester City at the weekend.
Before Jota struck his hat-trick there were calls for him to replace Firmino, but this has surely settled the debate for now and provided Klopp with the squad depth he has always craved for.
