Wolves are in talks with Pedro Martins as they chase a new manager following Julen Lopetegui’s decision to reject a move to Molineux.

Bruno Lage lost his job earlier this month with a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United proving to be the end.

Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Chelsea now means Wolves have lost five of their nine Premier League games this season, winning just one and drawing three.

Wolves need to get some results before their season turns into one of major concern, but their managerial hunt isn’t going to plan.

The top target for the job was Julen Lopetegui following Sevilla’s decision to sack him last week.

Wolves have been big fans of Lopetegui for years now and this seemed like the perfect timing for him to become Wolves boss.

However, it then emerged that Lopetegui’s father is badly ill and the Spanish coach has turned down Wolves to focus on his family matters, as claimed by Guillem Balague.

Wolves have to go back to the drawing board but it looks like they had a backup target in mind all along.

Mais Futebol in Portugal report that Pedro Martins is now in advanced talks to become Wolves boss.

It’s stated that nothing has been signed just yet but talks are going well and ‘everything points to an agreement soon’.

Martins looked poised to become Hull City boss last week and was even seen at the MKM Stadium alongside owner Acun Ilicali.

The deal fell through on Friday though, leaving some to wonder whether he knew that the Wolves position could end up being his.

That may well be the case with Martins well on his way to becoming Wolves’ third Portuguese boss in a row, following on from Lage and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Martins, 52, has been out of work since leaving Olympiacos in August, where he won 143 of his 221 games in charge whilst securing three league titles.

Martins isn’t a big name and has only managed one team outside of Portugal, but the hope is that he can make a big impact on Wolves if he does land the job.
