Pedro Martins has been linked with Wolves but the Portuguese boss now has a ‘verbal agreement’ to take over at Championship side Hull City.

Wolves have sacked Bruno Lage after just one win in eight games to start the new Premier League season.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham United was the final straw for Wolves and Lage was given his marching orders just 24 hours later.

A number of names have been linked with the job this week and, somewhat unsurprisingly, many of the names have been Portuguese.

Pedro Martins has been linked with Wolves

Jorge Mendes still has major influence at Wolves, their last two managers have been Portuguese and 10 of their first-team squad hail from Portugal too.

The likes of Ruben Amorim, Sergio Conceicao, Paulo Fonseca and Carlos Carvalhal have been mentioned, as has Pedro Martins.

The Mirror reported earlier this week that Wolves made Martins their top target for the vacancy.

The Express and Star added that Martins was keen on the Wolves job – but it doesn’t look like he’s heading for Molineux after all.

Sky Sports claim that Martins now has a ‘verbal agreement’ in place to become the new Hull City boss.

Hull sacked Shota Arveladze on Friday, mere hours before taking on Luton Town at the MKM Stadium.

Owner Acun Ilicali is hugely ambitious and now appears to have secured a huge move for the Tigers by convincing Martins.

Martins, 52, emerged as a quality manager in Portugal with Rio Ave and Vitoria Guimaraes before heading to Olympiacos in 2018.

Martins then won three straight league titles at Olympiacos before leaving the Greek side in August.

Now keen on a move to England, it looks like Martins will head to the Championship rather than the Premier League.

This is a huge coup for Hull and crosses Martins off the Wolves list, which likely features Julen Lopetegui at the very top.
