Wolves are weighing up a bid from Club Brugge for Owen Otasowie as the Premier League club looks to cash in on the USA starlet and Rafa Mir, as reported by The Athletic.

With just days to go before the Bruno Lage era gets under way, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ squad still looks noticeably short in a number of key positions.

The Black Country giants are crying out for a commanding central defender as well as a bone-crunching, ball-winning number six in the mould of a Palhinha or Samu Costa.

But with Chinese owner Fosun determined to maintain a sense of frugality and self-sufficiency – the pandemic showed major financial headaches are always just around the corner – Wolves will have to sell before they can buy with only a fortnight remaining in the transfer window.

Fortunately, Wolves are receiving approaches for a number of players who could certainly be described as ‘sellable assets’ – and we’re not talking about star men Ruben Neves or Adama Traore either.

Wolves could sell Rafa Mir and Owen Otasowie this month

Rafa Mir has played just 27 minutes of Premier League football since moving to England three years ago.

But after a superb loan spell at Huesca, the Spain U21 international is set to earn the club a cool £12 million profit as he closes in on a move to La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

According to Cope, Mir could even make his Atleti debut in Sunday’s top-flight opener at Celta Vigo.

Otasowie is also expected to have a new club come September, although Wolves have rejected an initial £3.4 million offer from Belgian champions Club Brugge.

The all-action American has turned down a new contract at Molineux and Wolves are holding out for £5 million – good money if you can get it for a 20-year-old who has only started two Premier League games.

Put together, Mir and Otasowie could strengthen the club’s coffers by a cool £17 million.

That might just be enough for a top-quality centre-half after all.
