Wolves have accepted a last-gasp bid from Steven Gerrard’s side for Dendoncker, with the Belgian now falling out of favour. The 27-year-old had started in each of his club’s opening two Premier League fixtures this season, but has only played 33 minutes in the next three.

Lage even left Dendoncker on the bench whilst Wolves drew 0-0 away at Bournemouth on Wednesday night. The 29-cap international has lost his place in the Portuguese’s line-up in favour of Matheus Nunes, following the 24-year-old’s £42m transfer from Sporting Lisbon.
Wolves now want to replace Dendoncker with Djiku to ensure that Lage is not left short of centre-half options. But the Black Country outfit face competition from Sevilla, with the La Liga team also preparing a last-ditch offer for the 28-year-old Ghana international’s move.
Molineux chiefs could table their first formal offer for Djiku in the next few hours to edge out any European interest. Additionally, RMC Sport claim Southampton are looking into a deal with Strasbourg as the Racing captain is currently set to be out of contract next summer.

Djiku can offer Lage instant Dendoncker replacement on deadline day
Dendoncker joining Aston Villa could expediate Wolves’ desire to sign Djiku ahead of the deadline. Sky Sports report the Molineux natives are set to sell their defensive midfielder to Gerrard for £13m, having accepted a bid from their West Midland rivals this Thursday.
Djiku would offer Lage an instant replacement and option at centre-half who can lead the line in Wolverhampton. The 17-cap enforcer has started in all five of Strasbourg’s Ligue 1 games so far this season, whilst scoring once, after hitting one goal in 31 games last term.
