Wolverhampton Wanderers are inching ever closer to securing promotion back to the Premier League.
Derby County coach and Wolves nemesis Kevin Phillips shared his belief that Nuno Espirito Santo needs to bring an experienced, top quality centre-half to Molineux in the summer, when writing his regular column for the Express & Star.
The Black Country outfit are currently sitting comfortably at the top of the Championship table, with a six point lead over Cardiff City, but with a 13 point advantage over third placed Fulham, promotion back to the Premier League this season seems to be a certainty.
Nuno has built a wonderful squad of players at Wolves, with some smart summer recruitment, but he has also found a way to extract the best from the group who were already at the club.
Phillips, who made a living out of scoring regularly against Wolves, shared what he believes Nuno needs to do in the transfer market this summer, when writing his regular column for the Express & Star:
“It’s no slight on any player already in there but I would say (they need) another centre-half. It could depend on what system he goes with in the Premier League. Would I say another striker? I don’t know. Benik Afobe has gone back there after finding it difficult to score goals for Bournemouth in the Premier League. That might be an area. Everyone wants as many strikers as you can in the top flight. First and foremost a centre-half that has that bit of Premier League experience and knows what it’s about.”
Next up for Wolves is a trip to Middlesbrough on March 30th, before they play host to Hull City four days later, and a return of six points from those matches could very well see them secure their place in the Premier League for next season, should results elsewhere go their way.
