Wolves want Nacho Fernandez with Julen Lopetegui looking to pull off a double deal involving the Real Madrid defender.

Wolves finally have their new manager in place having appointed Lopetegui as their new boss last weekend.

The Spaniard was Wolves’ top choice for the job after sacking Bruno Lage in early October.

Lopetegui initially said no as he dealt with family matters after leaving Sevilla but he has finally been brought into Molineux.

Wolves want Nacho Fernandez

Lopetegui will need some reinforcements in January given that Wolves have been struggling in the Premier League so far this season.

There may even be some names in mind already for Lopetegui, who will know the Spanish market exceptionally well.

Estadio Deportivo in Spain now claim that Lopetegui wants to sign two Real Madrid players that he could never quite secure for Sevilla.

The first is striker Mariano Diaz.

Mariano, 29, was a regular goalscorer for Real Madrid C and their Castilla side before earning a 2017 move to Lyon.

21 goals in 48 games for Lyon prompted Real to exercise a buy-back clause, but his career has stalled since then.

Mariano has scored just seven times in 64 games over the last five-and-a-half years, failing to really become a regular at Real.

Wolves need goals and Lopetegui may well turn to the former Dominican Republic international as a solution.

The second Real player Lopetegui wants is defender Nacho Fernandez.

Nacho, 32, is Real’s current vice-captain and has been with the club since 2001, emerging through the ranks to become a first-team player.

Capable of playing across the back four, Nacho has started just one league game this season and may feel that it’s time to try something new.

Lopetegui coached Nacho with the Spanish Under-21 side and now fancies reuniting with the veteran defender.

These additions would hopefully help drag Wolves up the table with Lopetegui looking for some experience to aid the Wolves cause.
