Morgan Gibbs-White shares personal story which will leave Wolverhampton Wanderers fans thanking their lucky stars

The Wolves ace has come through the Molineux ranks after being scouted at a tournament in Staffordshire – but things could have been very different.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is one of the most exciting youngsters coming through the Molineux ranks and much is expected of him next season after making his breakthrough in 2018-19.

In conversation with the Wolves website, however, the 19-year-old shared the story of how he was scouted by the West Midlands outfit which revealed just how fine the margins are when it comes to setting off the chain of events that can lead to success.

Gibbs-White was in a local team called Stafford Juniors and such was his talent that he was being pushed up in age groups, before being spotted by a Wolves scout at age eight at a tournament in the Staffordshire town of Penkridge in 2010.

However, if it wasn’t for his parents “shouting so much” at him during a game, the Wanderers scout – who along with the other scouts was watching a different game – may not have decided to come over and have a look, which in turn would have led to him being taken on by the club and getting to where he is now.

“The scouts weren’t actually watching my game, it was because my mum and dad were shouting so much at me in our game that one Wolves scout came over to have a look,” he told the Wolves website.

“I think he only watched the last ten minutes of the game, but he scouted me from there. I take my hat off to my mum and dad for shouting so loud and creating the tension.”

After rising through the ranks at Molineux, Gibbs-White went on to make his Premier League bow in the opening fixture of the 2018-19 season, while the year before, he experienced international glory by helping England win the Under-17 World Cup.

The midfielder, who made 31 appearances in all competitions for Wolves in the season just gone (Transfermarkt), also signed a new contract in early 2018, committing the next four-and-a-half seasons to Molineux.
