The Welsh international was not amused by his former bosses comments.

This week has seen former Wolves boss Stale Solbakken make some rather strong claims about managing in the Championship.

The Norwegian was appointed Wolves boss in May 2012 but was sacked by January 2013 after struggling to find any form at Molineux.

Wolves recently sacked Walter Zenga after a much shorter stint and Solbakken, as reported by Sky Sports, had this to say about taking jobs in the Championship:

“If you are so stupid to take a job there then you have to take the blame. I wouldn’t have done it again.

“This is not a [ex-Wolves owner] Steve Morgan conference, but I’m happy not to look into his iPad to watch players.

“It’s a difficult league to manage in. When the crowd are managing many of the games, they want to see chances.

“I have seen so many brainless Championship games, both live and on the bench.

But his comments have not gone down well with one of his former Wolves players. David Edwards had this to say about Solbakken on Sky Sports News HQ today (02/11/16):

“Slightly disrespectful I think, in terms of calling it brainless football at times in the Championship.

“I think it’s a great league to watch, it’s so exciting. It’s relentless as a player week-in week-out every single game is really tough.

“For whatever reason it didn’t work for Stale at Wolves. His comments are a little bit tongue-in-cheek maybe but I think he knows there’s a lot more quality than he’s letting on.”

Edwards seems offended by the ‘brainless’ football comment. Not many could argue with Solbakken when it comes to the turnover of managers in the second tier being too frequent but the comment on the style of play is certainly not fair.

If the football played in the Championship was so brainless then why as he sacked with Wolves sitting 18th in the table?

Many a Wolves fan will undoubtedly feel that Solbakken’s comments were simply a bitter and unnecessary swipe from a man cocooned by the safety of playing Champions League football at present.

Leicester City, who were only recently playing in the Championship themselves and are now Premier League champions, will be hoping to do English football proud against Solbakken’s Copenhagen side this evening.

Wolves fans might just get behind the Foxes tonight.
