Scott McTominay continues to impress as part of Manchester United’s first-team this season, and ticked another landmark off this week as he started a Champions League game for the first time, playing the full 90 minutes for the Red Devils as they beat Benfica at Old Trafford.

McTominay played well in the game. The 20-year-old definitely did not look out of place in the side as Jose Mourinho’s men planted one foot emphatically in the knockout stages of the competition – they need one point from their final two games to guarantee qualification.

So perhaps his performance will leave Wolves wondering what might have been had they pulled off one of the deals they were reportedly pursuing on transfer deadline day.

According to the Express and Star on the penultimate day of the summer transfer window, the Championship side were in talks with United about a potential loan move for the youngster.

Of course, that move would obviously not take place. And on paper, it does not appear to have hurt Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at all, with Wolves top of the second tier with 10 wins coming in their opening 15 league games.

But with the season now starting to stretch squads and other teams starting to fall away after a good start as they are being found out, Nuno may reflect that having McTominay in the ranks would give Wolves just that bit extra that may prove so valuable as the campaign continues.
