Costa and Cavaleiro combined to great effect once again versus Bristol City.
Richard Stearman has lavished praise on Portuguese duo Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro as Wolves secured back-to-back wins for the first time in August against Bristol City, the Express and Star reports.
Caveleiro’s late penalty ensured there was no shortage of Christmas cheer around Molinuex though Wolves were made to sweat for their win, Tammy Abraham cancelling out Dave Edwards’ opener before Aiden Flint put the Robins ahead prior to the interval only for the club’s Iberian strikeforce to turn the game around in the second half.
The result lifts Wolves up to the comparatively dizzying heights of 15th, a marked improvement in form that has coincided with an explosion of goals and assists from marquee summer signings Costa and Cavaleiro (below).
And Stearman says the pulse-racing partnership have been in inspired form in recent weeks.
“We said at half time that if we got another goal we’d go on and win it. That’s how it panned out,” the experienced defender, who made a dramatic last-minute clearance to safeguard the three points, told the Express and Star.
“We were determined that if we stuck to our game plan we were going to go on and get the equaliser and the winner.
“Helder Costa’s goal was brilliant and the two Portuguese lads were excellent and fully worth a goal each.
“They’ve been great these last few weeks and hopefully that will continue.”
Costa (below), arguably Wolves’ most exciting and effective attacking player this term, has notched three goals and three assists in his last five games while Caveleiro is finally starting to justify his club-record price-tag, finding the net in three of his last four appearances.
The duo have also scored six of Wolves’ last 12 league goals, ensuring the ongoing goal droughts afflicting the club’s other strikers has not had a dramatic impact on results.
