Steve Bull has urged the Wolverhampton Wanderers hierarchy to give Walter Zenga until Christmas to turn things around at Molineux, the Express and Star reports.
Following their defeat to Leeds at the weekend, Wolves are currently 18th in the Championship, four points above the bottom three, and without a win in their last five, having lost four from that spell.
Bull has asked the club’s board to not act hastily and to give the Italian a chance, but suggested when questions should begin to be asked if Zenga does not manage to change their fortunes.
“You can’t talk about him at the moment, you’ve got to give him time,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.
“The last thing Wolves want right now is a bit of disruption. You can’t have that every single season.
“You want somebody to go there, settle the side down, give him until Christmas, see how he gets on and make the decision then.”
The club’s next two games may surely test the board’s resolve if the results do not improve. Wolves face two of the sides that are currently below them in the table, with a trip to Blackburn – who occupy a place in the bottom three – being followed by a home game against Derby.
And if they go through those two games without ending their wait for a win, then it will surely be much more difficult for anyone to argue that Zenga is the right man to take the side forward.
