Wolves beat Leeds United easily at Molineux this evening as their impressive Championship record continues, with the home side earning a 4-1 win.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan spoke to BBC Radio Leeds after the game.

He gave his instant reaction at the final whistle: “When you make mistakes against good sides you get punished.

“Tonight they (Wolves) looked like they could punish quite a lot of sides.

“I think we’ve had a good performance against an excellent side. That’s the problem today.

“They Wolves are going to win this league. We’ve probably played the best team in the league. We still showed heart and spirit, and showed we have got the right attitude there.”

Wolves had a commanding lead by half-time thanks to goals from Barry Douglas and Ivan Cavaleiro.

There was a bit of brief hope early in the second half when Ezgjan Alioski scored an impressive goal, his second in as many games.

But optimism was short lived, as young midfielder Ronaldo Vieira received the first red card of his career after picking up a second booking.

Minutes later Wolves added a third, with Atletico Madrid loanee Diego Jota finding the target.

Leeds goalkeeper Andy Lonergan then committed a foul to concede a penalty, which was dispatched by Helder Costa.

Wolves were clearly the better team and the result highlighted why they are top of the table in the Championship.

With Sheffield United losing to Fulham, a four point gap has opened up for them.

Leeds slip down to 10th, having been seventh after beating Middlesbrough at the weekend, who this evening won against Birmingham City.
