Julen Lopetegui is leaving Sevilla this week amid rumours surrounding a potential move to become Wolverhampton Wanderers boss.

Wolves have decided to sack manager Bruno Lage after just shy of 16 months in charge of the club.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham United proved to be the final straw as Wolves gave Lage his marching orders.

The search for Lage’s successor is well and truly on and, as expected, a host of Portuguese managers have been linked.

It may be a Spaniard heading to Molineux though as Julen Lopetegui is once again being linked.

Wolves fans will remember Lopetegui as a key target for the club back in the summer of 2016 as he almost took the job before instead becoming Spain boss.

Jorge Mendes has close ties to Lopetegui and he remains a major influence at Wolves, so you can certainly connect the dots there.

The Daily Mail now claim that Lopetegui is set to leave Sevilla within a matter of days, which could pave the way for the Spaniard to finally join Wolves.

Sevilla have won just once in seven La Liga games this season and sit bottom of their Champions League group so Lopetegui is primed for the chop.

Former Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli is already being linked up to take over so Lopetegui appears to be in his final days as Sevilla manager.

Tonight’s game against Borussia Dortmund may even signal the end for Lopetegui and open the door for a move to Wolverhampton.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported earlier this week that Wolves have already made an offer for Lopetegui.

This seems to be pretty almost perfect for Wolves, who may now be handed Lopetegui on a silver platter this week.

The former Real Madrid boss has won an impressive 90 out of his 169 games in charge of Sevilla and guided the club to the 2020 Europa League title, beating Wolves in the quarter-finals.

We can only assume that Lopetegui is still highly-regarded inside Molineux and his imminent departure from Sevilla can only help a move.
