The Wolves ace was speaking before the Premier League club’s FA Cup clash with Manchester United.
Ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final tie this weekend, Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Diogo Jota has spoken out about Nuno Espirito Santo’s emotional goal celebrations.
On Saturday evening, Wolves will host Manchester United for a place in the semi-finals of the world’s oldest cup competition and a trip to Wembley Stadium.
Since his arrival at Molineux, Nuno has celebrated certain key wins and moments with particular exuberance, but one such display of this landed him in trouble this year.
Nuno was charged and fined by the FA after running on to the Molineux turf to celebrate Jota’s late clincher in a 4-3 Premier League win over Leicester City in January.
While the Portuguese coach accepted his £8,000 fine, he hinted that such celebrations could happen again, saying “everybody knows it is hard to contain those emotions in such a special moment.” (Goal.com)
Jota, whose goal against the Foxes triggered Nuno’s celebrations, was asked by the official Wolves site about them and he gave his thoughts, insisting they’re a spur of the moment thing and trying to imagine what he’d be like if they won the cup outright.
“He doesn’t do that in training,” Jota said. “I think it’s the way the games ended with the late goals. There are feelings that he doesn’t like to show, but he can’t help it because it’s an emotional game.
“I don’t think he thinks about it – he just does it. I think it’s a good thing for fans to see their coach celebrating like that. I can’t imagine how he’d celebrate if we win the final.”
Jota joined from Atletico Madrid, initially on loan, last season before making a permanent switch for around £12m last year, helped Nuno’s side to the Championship title, and has made 25 Premier League appearances this term (Transfermarkt).
