According to a report by 90 Min, the attempts made by Lyon to sign Flamengo starlet Joao Gomes have been deemed unsuccessful, as the player is enticed by a switch to Wolves.
Joao Gomes turns out Lyon move in favour of Wolves
As stated by the same outlet, initially, it seemed as if a £14.9 million deal involving the 21-year-old would do the trick, as a move to Julen Lopetegui’s side had been seemingly agreed.
The Brazilian club had not sent the documentation back to the English club and saw their heads turn after the Ligue 1 outfit promised to pay a bigger fee for the highly-rated midfielder.
However, Joao Gomes ‘wants’ to play in the Premier League, which is why he favours a switch to Wolves rather than Lyon.

The French giants’ owner, John Textor even met Gomes to persuade him to put pen to paper.
But even that gesture has not managed to change the youngster’s mind about playing his football at Molineux.
The report claims that Wolves believe that they will be able to beat Lyon to wrap up a deal for Joao Gomes before the transfer window shuts.
In our view: Joao Gomes coup could be a gamechanger
Of course, Wolves’ biggest priority must be to ensure Premier League survival.
And perhaps Gomes may take time to adapt to the league, which may not make him the perfect addition for the here and now.
However, once Joao Gomes does fit into Julen Lopetegui’s style at Wolves and understands the demands of English football, Lyon would be left steaming after witnessing one of the most talented up-and-coming midfielders thrive at Molineux.
After all, football talent scout, Jacek Kulig labeled the youngster as ‘unique’ for being a tenacious box-to-box midfielder blessed with playmaking abilities as well.
This is a signing for the present and the future of the club, and from both a footballing and a resale value perspective, it could prove to be an extremely astute coup.
